SIA and Tata Sons are in talks to merge their two airline groups, Air India and Vistara.

The two airlines will combine to form a new Indian mega-airline.

The Tata group will hold a majority of the shares in the merged airline.

SIA will acquire a strategic stake. The merger is expected to take place by March 2024.

The merger will help the Air India group to strengthen its domestic operations, while enhancing its international presence.

The combined Air India group will also have a stronger position in the Indian LCC market.

The new combined airline will have a total of 218 widebody aircraft.

Air India is slated to receive additional planes in the coming years. It will be four or five times larger than Vistara.
