Don Mattingly and the Blue Jays are in deep discussions to place the former Yankees captain on the Toronto team.

The announcement could be made on Wednesday, which would be part of an eventful day for Mattingly.

He is one of eight people who are on an entry into the Hall of Fame through the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee ballot.

Mattingly was the manager of the Marlins for seven years however, the teams decided not to keep the partnership after 2022.

He did not identify the team however he did mention that at the moment he would like to join an organization.

Mattingly has not played in any World Series as a player or coach, nor as the manager for his teams.

The Blue Jays fired Charlie Montoyo as manager on June 13th and promoted John Schneider to the interim post.

Toronto was in an appearance in the playoffs, as a wildcard but fell in both of its games in the opening round against Seattle.
